Uniform Policy

At Cornerstone Academy for Social Action (C.A.S.A.), we believe that a clear and consistent dress code fosters a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment. Our uniform policy helps ensure equity, reduce distractions, and promote school pride. All students are expected to follow the uniform guidelines outlined below.

Required Uniform Items:

  • Tops - Black uniform polo shirt or t-shirt (with or without school logo)
  • Bottoms - Khaki pants or skirts (knee-length or longer)
  • Sweatpants - Official C.A.S.A. uniform sweatpants only
  • Footwear - - Closed-toe shoes or sneakers (must be worn with socks)

The following items are not allowed under any circumstances:

  • Crocs or similar slip-on footwear
  • Ripped, torn, or distressed clothing
  • Non-uniform sweatpants or joggers
  • Shorts, mini-skirts, or other inappropriate attire
  • Tops with large logos or designs unrelated to C.A.S.A.

Additional Guidelines:

  • Uniforms must be worn daily unless otherwise specified for a designated dress-down day or special event.
  • Clothing must be clean, appropriately sized, and worn as intended (e.g., no sagging pants).
  • Outerwear (jackets, coats, hoodies) may not be worn in class unless it is official C.A.S.A. uniform gear.
  • Students who fail to comply with the uniform policy may be subject to disciplinary action and parent contact.

Why Uniforms Matter

  • Equity: Reducing visible economic differences among students.
  • Focus: Limiting distractions to help students concentrate on learning.
  • Pride: Creating a sense of community and school identity.

Internet Enable Devices/Cell Phone Policy

Student Cell Phone Policy prohibits the use of internet-enabled devices by students during the school day, anywhere on school grounds. To ensure a focused and distraction-free learning environment, Cornerstone Academy for Social Action (CASA) has implemented the following cell phone policy for all students:

Morning Collection Procedure

  • All students are required to turn in their internet-enabled devices/cell phones upon entering the school building each morning.
  • Internet-enabled devices/cell phones must be submitted by 7:55 AM in the auditorium to Ms. Rivera (Parent Coordinator) and Ms. Andrews (Community Coordinator).
  • Internet-enabled devices/cell phones will be securely stored and returned to students at the end of the school day.

Late Arrival Procedure

  • Students who arrive after 8:00 AM must turn in their phones directly to Ms. Rivera in the main office upon entry.

Important Notes:

Exceptions: (if authorized by a teacher/principal/district for a specific educational purpose; for student healthcare management; the event of an emergency; translation services; where required by law; or when included in a student IEP or 504 plan).

  • Students may not keep phones in their backpacks, pockets, or lockers during the school day.
  • Unauthorized possession or use of a cell phone during the school day will result in confiscation and may require a parent/guardian to retrieve the device.
  • Repeated violations of the cell phone/internet-enabled devices policy will result in disciplinary action under the school’s code of conduct.

Bussing Information

At C.A.S.A., we understand how important safe and reliable transportation is for our families—especially for incoming 6th grade students.

Students who have busing included in their IEP will receive transportation services as outlined in their plan.
For general education students, yellow bus service may be available (for 6th Grade only) if they live more than one mile from the school. Please note that this is not door-to-door service. If eligible, your child will be assigned to a designated bus stop based on your home address.

Eligibility is determined by the NYC Department of Education's Office of Pupil Transportation. For questions about your child’s eligibility or assistance with transportation services, please contact the main office or visit the NYC DOE Transportation Guide for Families and Transportation Eligibility pages linked below. Additionally, bussing updates can be accessed via your MySchools account.
